Welcome to Jessie Breakwell’s enchanting watercolor world.
Melbourne-based Jessie Breakwell paints colorful wildlife, offering viewers of all ages a playful diversion from the stressors of life. She says on her site, “I’m not into realism. There’s enough drama going on in the world at the moment, so I prefer to take a lighter look at life.” Jessie studied fine art and painting at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and has exhibited her distinctive, whimsical watercolor works in Melbourne, London, and Beverly Hills. (She even enjoyed a stint tutoring Ozzy Osbourne’s children.) In an interview, Jessie shared a glimpse of her artistic career so far and hinted at a new chapter in her business beginning soon.
When did you first know you wanted to be an artist?
I don’t know if it was ever a conscious decision. I was born into and influenced by a creative family. I have very early memories of going to shops (including Georges) with my mum as she sold her hand-made jewelry. She was also an interior decorator, and she encouraged me to be an artist from the day I was born. I think this is also where I get my entrepreneurial streak from.
Your art creates a mental escape from reality for viewers. Is the creative process therapeutic for you as well?
Yes, the creative process can be therapeutic at times, but other times it can be frustrating, challenging, or stimulating. It depends on what I’m working on, and it is a business, so it’s not as carefree as if it were a hobby.

What are the greatest challenges and rewards of your work?
Challenges are commissions, but they can also be 100% the best reward, as they can turn out so well and be so fulfilling.
Aside from art, what are your everyday inspirations?
Everyday inspirations are primarily my daughter, travel, food, fashion, and culture. I love being with friends and socializing.
Is there anything else you’d like readers to know?
