Moscow-based photographer Kristina Makeeva is turning our world into a colorful fantasy land.
Armed with a camera, Photoshop, and a big imagination, Kristina Makeeva is building a world of whimsy that hundreds of thousands of people escape to every day via her Instagram. Kristina shared a glimpse of the method to her magic.
When did you get started with photography, and how did you progress to this point?
I started shooting at age 16, working in Photoshop for 14—i.e., I have been taking pictures for 16 years. Moved to the level of “nothing is impossible.”
What’s one of your personal favorite photos that you’ve made, and why?
I’m more inclined to the fact that I do not have my favorite photos, but perhaps this one [below] I like most of all. Often favorite photos are pictures for the soul, and not what the majority like. After all, each picture has its own story.
What’s the most challenging part of your artistic process?
To persuade my husband to go somewhere. The rest is easy, compared to this.
Aside from photography, what are your other inspirations?
I like to walk for hours in the city.
What’s one important truth you’ve learned as an artist?
Talent is not given from birth. It is the result of hard work.
